Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-dot Bikini
When
I first decided to bring a bikini run to Lowell I had visions of Brian Hyland's
1950's classic song about a woman wearing a small bikini that was afraid to
come out of the locker. Would the women of the Good Times Series be afraid to
come out of the locker? Well, two, three, four, stick around and I'll tell you

a picture is worth a thousand words, why am I lost for words in decribing
this one?

On a night more
suited for a short sleeve shirt then beach apparel, the women and men
of the Good Times did what they do best
. they had a Good Time! Over half
the field wore some sort of bathing suit and for their fun loving attitude each
received a beach toy.
I found it very
interesting that the two smallest suits weren't worn by women, but by men. Dave
LaBrode and Denny LeBlanc would have no problem fitting in at Old Orchard Beach.
I must admit that wearing a Speedo and running through Lowell took a lot of
..well
you get the picture. I did find it interesting that the guys with the smallest
suits just happened to have French surnames. Coincidence? I think not!
What would a bikini
run be without photographs? We got plenty of them thanks to photographers extraordinaire
Jim Rhoades and Richie Blake. Yup, they had tough duty covering our version
of the Sport Illustrated swimsuit shoot.

I haven't checked
the archives yet, but this had to be one of our largest summer races ever with
185 finishers. Apparently bathing apparel doesn't slow you down either as 50
runners set course PRs.
About
the Competition
The performance of the night was turned in by UConn cross-country standout Megan
Bowden who set a new 20-29 age group record and was our overall top female finisher. Her
time of 19:33 places her third on the list of all-time female PR rankings.
On the men's side
it was the battle of the Donnelly's as Caleb Donnelly held off his uncle Joe
to take the win. The fourteen year old Caleb is from Hudson, NH. I sure hope
he runs for my alma mater Alvirne High School.
There was no change
on the leader board as Christie Fox and EJ Hrynowski were able to hold onto
their leads.
Kill Dave
I guess next week I get to find out how many friends or enemies I have. This
will be the first and most likely last Kill Dave 5K. After six years I finally
get to run the Good Times course. Here's how it works - anyone who finishes in
front of me wins a prize. Judging from the time I ran in Newburyport last week
that will be most of you. BTW ladies the results will be gender graded - not
that you need any help in beating me. However since I need all the help I can
get, we'll age grade the results too. So I really hope you can join me next
week for the Kill Dave 5K and, as always, we can't promise you'll run a fast
time, but we guarantee you'll have a Good Time at the Good Times Series.
